onehundredmiles
onehundredmiles is a webpage to collect my music, art, and occasionally musings on science, technology and mathematics.
i’ve been writing blogs less and less, so i’ve moved that part to an archive rather than the main focus of the website.
this will make me feel better about not blogging so often…
i’m currently juggling with ideas for ‘project:alice’, my literary/musical experiment. i’ve been reading, rereading, and interpretting the stories in Lewis Carrol’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in an attempt to associate some form of feeling, event or story to each chapter. occasionally these will be more literally following the events in the book, occasionally i will pile metaphor upon metaphor to craft a story which may share a similar meaning as the relevant chapter. it is very much in the early stages, and very much a pretentious, experimental project. i don’t expect it to turn into anything amazing, it’s just another way of me finding inspiration to write music.
besides that, i write and record electronic music from time to time, with an emphasis on ambience over a beat, though sometimes i use both.
in addition to the music, i like to create digital art and photomanipulations. some of these are in the ‘art’ section of this website, but i’ve been pretty slow at uploading some newer ones.
finally, a bit about me.
i’m a first year PhD student at the University of Birmingham, working with the ATLAS collaboration at the LHC. i am currently focussing on development of Atlantis, the ATLAS event display, which involves a lot of Java coding and patience.
in the near future i will be thinking about starting an analysis, with a view of looking at very early top quark physics in the first years of 7 TeV proton-proton collisions. it’s an exciting time to be part of this collaboration.
